Monaco - Part 2

The second part of my Monaco trip, will be dedicated to the main building in Monte-Carlo... The casino ;)

Druga część mojej podróży w Monako, będzie poświęcona najsłynniejszemu budynkowi w Monte-Carlo... Czyli kasyno ;)

When Monaco lost the cities of Menton and Roquebrune in 1848, it went into financials troubles. In April 1856, the Prince Charles III of Monaco, listen to his mom's idea (Caroline Gibert) and allowed an exclusive privilege of 35 years, for a new establishment, which will be named "Bains de Mer". The main idea was to introduce in it gambling, because this kind of establishment was forbidden in the neighbor countries.
Unfortunately, the success was not there... None of the investors were a visionaire,  and they all failed.
So, Charles III went to the famous "Magician of Homburg", François Blanc, who already got a big success in the gambling area in Luxembourg. He got it for 1,7 million Francs + 50.000 Francs of anual fees and 10% of the benefice. On the 1st of April 1863, François Blanc founded then the company "Société Anonyme des Bains de Mer et du cercle des Etrangers" with some investors like the Bishop of Monaco and the Cardinal Pecci (the future Pope Leon XIII).
Later, he invested a big amount of money to develop the part of the Spéluges (now Monte-Carlo), where the first casino, the Hotel de Paris, was ended to build in july 1866. Then Charles III, renamed the part of the Spéluges onto Monte-Carlo (Mount Charles), on his honor.

Monako miał duże problemy finansowe kiedy  stracił miasta Menton i Roquebrune w 1848r. W kwietniu 1856r, Książe Karol III z Monako posłuchał swojej matki (Karolina Gibert) i dał pozwolenie  na ekskluzywny 35cio letni przywilej, stworzenia nowego przedsiębiorstwa o nazwie "Bains de Mer".
Póżniej zainwestował sporą kwotę pieniędzy by rozwinąć dzielnicę  Spéluges (teraz zwana Monte-Carlo), gdzie pierwsze kasyno, Hotel de Paris, zostało zbudowane w lipcu 1866r. Wtedy Karol III zmienił nazwe  z Spéluges na Monte-Carlo (góra Karola) na swoje cześć.

The benefices of the first year are 800.000 Francs, and 2 millions three years later. In 1869, as it was working so well, François Blanc decided to remove the double 0 in the roulette, which make people play even more, and Charles III officially abolish the taxes raise in Monaco. François Blanc was then called "the magician of Monte-Carlo".
There was a famous quote "Rouge gagne souvent, Noir quelques fois, mais Blanc gagne toujours" (Red wins often, Black wins sometimes, but White (Blanc) always wins).

A Karol III  oficjalnie zniósł możliwość podoszenia podatków w Monako. Franciszek Blanc dostał wtedy ksywę "Magik z Monako".
Był znany cytat "Rouge gagne souvent, Noir quelques fois, mais Blanc gagne toujours" (Czerwony wygrywa często, Czarny wygrywa czasem, ale Biały (Blanc) wygrywa zawsze).

The seaside of the casino before 1878
One year after Francois Blanc's death in 1877, his wife, Marie Blanc, asked the architect Charles Garnier, to build an opera for 1879  in Monte-Carlo and the new casino for 1881.
The speed and the quality of Charles Garnier is still very impressive. The luxurious decorations, with a lot of gold, are there to attract the players who want to become rich. It's the myth of the fortune you can get in a casino, just in a few lucky hands.

And for those of you who don't like gambling... you still have the dolce far niente with the swimming pool and the great view :P

A dla tych, którzy nie lubią hazardu... Jest nadal zwany dolce far niente nad basenem z pięknym widokiem :P

Legislation was making its way through the Missouri House and Senate, providing a path to legalization and regulation of video slots.
